FAQs
If I join the network is there a minimum number of activities I have to participate in?

ALLIES are asked to host at least one event per quarter. An event is an activity a member enjoys and chooses to "host" and post on the calendar. Other than that, you decide how active you want to be. Frequently visit the calendar to see if there is anything you want to do.

As an ALLIE who is prepared to support other members, will I be expected to help with personal care (toileting and dressing)?

No, if an ALLIE needs assistance with personal care they will have someone available to help them. In some cases you may feel comfortable assisting, if so, this should be discussed with the family and Respite compensation may be available.

Will I get paid as an ALLIE?

No, involvement in the network is voluntary. Some families may choose to provide compensation for things such as activity fees and snacks.

What if someone yells or does something I don't know how to handle?

In most cases this can be avoided just by getting to know your fellow ALLIES (what they like and how they communicate). If you have any specific questions that are not answered in the Positive Rituals worksheet, you can always ask the ALLIE, their parent, or contact person.

Is there a background check on members?

No. It is your responsibility as a member, parent or guardian to decide who you choose recreate with. It is encouraged that parents meet ALLIES and feel comfortable with the connection before setting them up in an activity together. This is crucial to the success of the experience. An ALLIE may need to learn about how to best support a fellow ALLIE, especially if there are support strategies that will help ensure successful involvement.

As a parent, do I need to provide transportation?

Yes, unless carpooling arrangements are made with other members in advance of the event.

What if my schedule changes or I want to quit being a member?

You can decide to change your availability or become inactive at any time. Simply contact the network coordinator.
